Pearak Pha, 28, pleaded guilty to misconduct with a motor vehicle and felony evading for his role in the June 25, 2016, fatal incident that took the life of area resident Gasper Esteves. Pha is expected to receive a term of five years in prison when he is sentenced on July 29.

Esteves was standing outside of his Ford Ranger in front of his sister’s home on Arlington Street when he was struck by a Volkswagen Passat, police said. Pha failed to stop and proceeded to speed away from the scene.

Police said that Esteves was transported to St. Vincent’s Hospital in critical condition and was pronounced dead from his injuries a few hours after being admitted.

The investigation by police in Bridgeport identified Pha as the owner and driver of the Volkswagen. An arrest warrant was issued and Pha was taken into custody on Ogden Street on March 28 last year.
